About Us
Originally formed as the Newport Swimming Club in 1968, the club was based at the pool in Melbourne Road, Newport - now Beaurepaires Tyres.
When the Council built the Mason Street pool in the early 1980s, the club relocated and changed its name to the Altona Swimming Club.
Offering a family environment, the emphasis is on a balanced approach to both personal improvement and competitiveness.
In season 2019-20, we are in a rebuilding phase, with approximately 60 swimming members, predominantly between the ages of 9 to 15 years. Members participate in the club's various Training Squads and each term come together to race for one of our 3 internal teams:
- Crocodiles
- Polar Bears
- Foxes
Our club is focused on having Teams compete at District and State level, and throughout its history has enjoyed great results at State and National Events. We also have a very proud history with representatives in Para Olympic competitions.
In season 2020-21, we will try to run some Club events focused on members improving their PBs, and gaining valuable competition experience. We also believe these extra events build a great social fabric, similar to what the club has enjoyed throughout its history.
Club Events include:
- Club Teams Championships
- Individual Time Trials
- Social Events
We offer a try out period of 2 weeks for people to gain an appreciation of the Club. Please contact the club at altonase@gmail.com to arrange.
Membership options and fees can be found here. Anyone from our friendly committee will be able to help.
